  2. Ever dreamt of having a rainbow pet? • Rainbow pets are extremely rare genetically modified organisms which first originated in Australia. • Through the uses of technologies such as cDNA libraries, gel electrophoresis, southern blotting, DNA sequencing, and PCR help create the rainbow end effect.

  3. Complementary DNA • cDNA is synthesized from a mRNA template and then catalyzed by the enzymes DNA polymerase and reverse transcriptase. • In order to achieve the rainbow color, cDNA that codes for the protein is transferred to the recipient cell.

  4. Gel Electrophoresis • Used to separate proteins by charge or size by the use of an electrical field over the gel. • It helps determine the common genes shared for the rainbow coloring.

  5. Southern Blotting • Combines the electrophoresis fragments to filter membrane by probe hybridization. • Allows for the fixation of target probe hybrids, which help detect the rainbow color gene.

  6. DNA Sequencing • Determines the exact pair order of the base pairs in a segment of DNA. • Helps for replication of the rainbow color gene by the recognization of each base pair which makes it easier to copy.

  7. Polymerase Chain Reaction • PCR is used to copy DNA fragments. • Indicates the presence of a particularly genetically engineered organism, such as the rainbow color in animals .
