  2. Who Takes the K-PREP? Not Required to Test Required to Test • Students in Alternate K-PREP • Student’s skipped grade • Students enrolled at Job Corp centers • Students with approved medical or extraordinary circumstance non-participation requests • Students expelled without services • Students in grades 3-8 including those with disabilities • Students who are retained • Foreign exchange students • Students who move within the state during testing • Students with a minor medical emergency • First year EL students are required to attempt mathematics and science (four multiple-choice or one extended-response). • Second year EL students and later participate in all content areas. KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  3. Matrix Testing –vs– Common Testing KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/8/2019

  4. Matrix Testing (Science) • Broad curriculum coverage while minimizing testing time per student • Involves developing a complete set of items judged to cover the curriculum, then divides the items into subsets and administers each student one of the subsets of items • Increases content coverage at the school level with less testing time for students. KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  5. Common Testing (K-PREP) • Common testing uses one form. • All students take the same assessment with the same questions. • Common testing improves the comparability of student results. KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  6. Common and Matrix Testing KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  7. Science – Grades 4 and 7 Student Combined Booklet KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/8/2019

  9. Science Summative Assessments • Test booklet, grades 4 and 7 • Separate booklet from other content areas • Combined test/response booklet  • Four forms at each grade • Items with clusters include: • Multiple Choice: One correct answer with three distractors • Multiple Select: Two correct answers with three distractors • Extended response: One written response KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  10. Testing Preparation Activities KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/8/2019

  11. Preparation Schedule KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/8/2019

  12. Receiving Materials April 8 Option #2 April 22 Option #3 March 25 Option #1 • Regular and accommodated test materials will arrive in the district based upon shipping option chosen. • Test materials arrive in the district packaged by school. The pre-printed student response booklets (SRBs) and student combined booklets (grades 4 and 7) will be sorted by grade in ascending alphabetical order. • Test materials will include an overage: • School will receive 5% • District will receive 3% • Maintain security for all test materials. • Test booklets housed in the BAC’s designated area can be single or double locked. • Test booklets housed in classrooms must be double locked. KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/8/2019

  13. Inventory Materials • Inventory materials as soon as possible upon receipt. • Keep original boxes. • Original boxes will be used to return test materials. • Request additional materials, if needed. • Check district and school overage before placing an additional order. Note: Do not exchange test materials between schools in or out of the district in lieu of ordering additional materials.

  14. Requesting Additional Materials • PearsonAccessnext by DAC • Online orders must be submitted and approved prior to 1:30 p.m. ET to be included in that day’s shipment. • Requests for additional test materials can be made through June 5. • Only one order per school, per grade can be processed in a single day. • Request additional return shipping materials for a school through June 14.

  19. 2019 Testing Times And Items Chart KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/8/2019

  20. K-PREP Scheduling • Testing is to be 5 consecutive instructional days during the last 14 instructional days of the district calendar. • The 5 days are to be done by school level (elementary, middle), not by separate grade levels. • Any day a regular test session is scheduled is considered one of the 5 testing days even if only one session is done on that day. • All students in a grade/school must take each part of the test at the same time. • Each part is to be given as a separate session with a break in between. Allow for breaks when developing schedule. • Breaks may be short (i.e., stand and stretch) or long (i.e. lunch) with appropriate monitoring. KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  21. K-PREP Extended Time Scheduling • Extended time is allowed only for students with IEPs, 504s or PSPs specifying extended time. • Make arrangements for extended time in a manner that allows other students to go back to instructional activities. At the end of the school day, students with regular and extended time need to have finished the same parts of the test. KDE:OSAA:DAAS:jb/ld:2/4/2019

  22. Makeup Schedule • Makeup sessions can be completed during the 5-day window or during the 4 days after the window ends while test materials are prepared for shipping. • Schedule makeup sessions as soon as is reasonably possible after the missed test session. • Seating charts are required for makeup sessions.
