  1. Robot Contest Guidelines for 601A Sound Controlled Robot Team • Event 1: • Each team will be timed in navigating their robot on a horizontal surface (the floor). The goal is to get the robot to travel from a starting line to a finishing line, located at approximately 2 meters away, as quickly as possible by guiding it with sound (e.g., clapping hands). The finish line must be touched by the robot for the event to be considered finished and recorded time to stop. • Once the robot starts navigating the course, it can not be picked up or touched. A 10 second time penalty will be given to the team's final time if any member has to physically touch the robot once it has started the course. • The teams will be ranked from 1st place to 6th place based on the time taken to navigate the course. The first place team will earn 6 points, the second place team 5 points, and so on. Every team will have only 2 minutes to complete the course. If the robot doesn’t reach the finish line within 2 minutes the team gets 0 points.

  2. Robot Contest Guidelines for 601A Sound Controlled Robot Team • Event 2: • This event is similar to the previous one with the difference that there will be obstacles between the start and finish line (ex: books) and the points earned will be 8 for the first team, then 7 for the second etc. If the robot doesn’t make it within two minutes, the team will receive 2 points. The difference in points scored in the two events accounts for the difference in the difficulty of the tasks.

  3. Robot Contest Guidelines for 601A Sound Controlled Robot Team • Final Team Ranking: • The earned points in each event will be added and the team with the highest total points will be ranked as first place. The rest of the places will be assigned in a similar way. • Example: Team 1, Event 1- ranked 3rd, Event 2- ranked 2nd; their overall score would be 4 + 7 = 11. • In the event of a tie, the team with the fastest time in the tied event will take the higher ranking position.

  4. Robot Contest Guidelines forRobot Walker 606A Team • Event 1: • Each team will be timed in navigating their robot up an incline board (approx. 12 degrees and 3ft long) to within 6 inches of the end of the board, turn the robot around, and return to the starting position. Once the robot starts navigating the course, the robot can not be picked up and a 5 second time penalty will be added to the team time if any team member has to physically steer/move the robot. Each team will complete this event two times and the teams will be ranked from 1st place to 6th place based on the quickest time taken to navigate the course.

  5. Robot Contest Guidelines forRobot Walker 606A Team • Event 2: • Each team will be timed in navigating their robot counterclockwise one lap around an obstacle (3ft x 1.5ft rectangle) and back to the initial starting position.

  6. Robot Contest Guidelines forRobot Walker 606A Team • Final Team Ranking: • For the overall final team rankings, I will assign 1 point for each rank level that the team achieved per event (Ranking 6th=1 pt, ranking 5th=2 pt, ranking 4th=3 pt, ranking 3rd=4 pt, ranking 2nd=5 pt, ranking 1st=6 pt) and add up the points from the two events for a final team ranking (example: Team 1, Event 1- ranked 3rd, Event 2- ranked 2nd; their overall score would be 4 + 5=9). The teams will then be ranking from 1st to 6th place based on highest total score.
