  2. Mission • Collect and transmit temperature, pressure, and altitude data, as well as take a picture at 80,000 feet. • Use temperature data to activate and turn off heaters, ensuring the interior of the box is kept above 10 degrees Celsius. • Use pressure data to estimate altitude using function stored in computer, and activate camera at desired altitude. • Use the power distribution board in conjunction with the computer to activate and turn off components. • Transmit data to ground with radio, as well as store it on onboard SD Card.

  3. SHOT II / UN-4 Connection: • The purpose of the payload it to test Power and C&DH flight hardware, as well as provide the team an opportunity to practice programming.

  4. Communications • Two Kenwood TH-D7A radios • Proof of concept. We are able to transmit data from the computer on a relatively low frequency band. • Box antenna consists of just the radio. Ground station consistsof radio connected to a Yagi antenna.

  5. Power Distribution • Power provided by six 9-Volt batteries in parallel. • Regulated by two AP34063 Universal DC to DC converters • One chip to reduce 5 volts for computer • The other to boost to 13.8 for the radio • Power control based off of MOSFETs, switched on and off by computer.

  6. C&DH • EVK1100 development kit • This kit comes equipped with the 32-bit ATMEL processor which Knightsat’s C&DH was designed around • Comm. Interfaced via RS-232 USART0 • Camera interfaced via RS-232 USART2 • Pressure and temperature sensors interfaced through 6 of the 8 ADC channels • Using the multiplexer on our GPIO we are able to use unmapped pins to provide a 3.3V signal to trigger the MOSFETs

  7. Test Program and Compliance • Individual testing of each component • Integration of two, three, then all systems • Payload complies with all User’s guide requirements for: • Center of mass • Total mass • Communication bandwidth restrictions • Integration with flight string

  8. Expected Results • Temperature, Pressure, and Altitude data will be transmitted to ground • All data and photograph will be stored to onboard memory • Data is expected to show that correct temperatures were maintained, image was taken at the correct altitude, and that all systems were activated at the correct times.

  9. Demonstration • Send Data over the radios • Demonstrate power control
