  8. Key Benefits • Provides Real-Time Next Generation Distance Support 2.0 • Improves Readiness with Reduced Manning • Reduces Support Infrastructure • Minimizes Time for Issue resolution • Optimizes Training • Enables Knowledge Projection

  9. Demonstration • Our Vision of support possibilities by: Harnessing the Power of Technology for the Warfighter

  10. RSC Future • Follow-on Work • Framework for Technical Document Content Management • Standardized Portal Content Management System • XML Database

  11. DoN Guidance 23 October 2004 “… results of BCA for conversion must be reported by 28 February 2005” “… plans and schedules submitted no later than 31 December 2005” XML Conversion Mandate

  12. XML Document Conversion • Identified MIL-STD 81927 as source format for Work Package documents • Identified MIL-STD 3001 DTD as target format • Identified 3rd party conversion software engine • Engaged 3rd party developers to create XML transformation and PDF XSLT software • Processed sample document NAVAIR 16-35T1250-2 into valid XML • Created PDF transform to demonstrate print capability

  13. XML Conversion (cont’d) • Next Steps • Inventory and categorize source documents to determine the variety of source formats • Work with Tech Pubs to refine XML tagging of 81927 format • Finalize peripheral source tagging and image management • Complete PDF output transform • Define HTML output transform for RSC use • Identify XML Repository for RSC

  14. Instaknow NMCI Certification • Process changed 1 January 2005 • Pre-submittal to PMO pre-certification facility (PPF) required before AIT Test lab • Request To Deploy (RTD) form required • CDA RFS Registration in ISF Tools - Complete • DADMS (FAM) submission – Completed by Crane and awaiting NAVSEA approval • RTD form submission - In process
