  2. About our school

  3. About our school • Gained our 1st Title I Status during 2012-2013 school year (22% increase in students receiving subsidized meals) • Currently 66% of students receive subsidized meals • 18% of students have parents actively serving in the military • Palmetto Gold and Silver Award Recipients in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 • Met AYP 2009-2012, 2013 State Report Card Rating of A

  4. Goal 1: Increase parental and community involvement to help meet the needs of our students and our school. Ongoing community support and services provided to PRES students via the following connections: • Real Champions Mentoring Program • The Link • Parent Breakfast

  5. Goal 2: Continue to involve the local community by building upon the 2011 Centennial Celebration of PRES as the center of town for 100 years. • 100th Birthday Centennial Celebration in 2011 • SIC, Port Royal Town Council, and the Historic Port Royal Foundation (HPRF) worked on the application for the National Register of Historic Places • Quarterly Newsletter entitled “Community Connection”

  6. Goal 3: Increase engagement of the community and promote collaboration to revitalize the role of PRES in the community as an outstanding neighborhood school for the 21st century. We are fortunate to have numerous historic, civic, cultural, and natural resources within walking distance of the campus. • In Our Own Backyard • Joint Initiative between SIC and Town of Port Royal • All grade levels participate in walking field trips • Based on curriculum and grade level science & social studies standards

  7. What’s Next for PRES? • Build upon past successes by establishing new and creative initiatives • added to the National Register of Historic Places this spring • 2nd Annual Parent Breakfast was held this year as part of the School’s Valentine’s Day celebration • Continuous editions of “Community Connection” newsletter to include student participation through journalism club • expand the offerings associated with the “In Our Own Backyard” fieldtrip program by aligning additional sites to state standards and grade level curriculum

  8. How we all “fit” together “Research on community engagement has found that when communities mobilize around school improvement efforts many positive outcomes can be achieved, including improved student achievement.” Our plan is to continue working collaboratively with our parents, partners, and community members for the overall success of Port Royal Elementary School.
