  2. basic|victoriabasic assessment & support in intensive care • Intensive two day course • Faculty consists entirely of ICU Specialists • 17 Lectures • 10 Skill Stations • continual assessment & final compulsory exam • Designed as an ICU induction course • Introduction for doctors new to the care of the acutely & critically ill • Ensures a standard of care for all junior staff • Removes the mystery of ICU equipment, procedures & techniques

  8. Expected Standard • Require >50% to successfully complete course. • Unsuccessful candidates given opportunity to read manual again and retake test. • Focus attention to deficiencies in knowledge • Candidate assessment given to referring hospital

Future Improvements • Candidate continual assessment • 60% pass mark for MCQ • If < 60%, candidate must have favourable skill station assessments. • Lectures & Skill stations updated • Relevant topics • New Equipment • Phantom for US guided CVC Cannulation teaching • Compulsory attendance for all Alfred ICU junior staff
