  2. Welcome to theReston Jaycees Dear reader, The Jaycees have been shaping future leaders in the United States since 1920! The word Jaycees stands for “Junior Chamber”, and our organization was created for the purpose of providing opportunities for our young adult members to learn how to be business and civic leaders or excel in their chosen careers. One of our Jaycee mottos is to “learn by doing” and we essentially give our members opportunity to organize projects and events that create opportunities for all—whether that be community service, charity fundraising, social or networking opportunities or personal development opportunities. Membership in the Jaycees is a journey of self discovery. It is our hope that you’ll discover who you are as a leader, as a professional, as a community member, as an individual. I’m so excited that you are taking that journey – whether today is your first step or your millionth. That said, please know that there is always more to know and more to learn about this great organization. If you have questions, there are answers out there and I’d be delighted to help you find them – just ask! Junior Chamber International • History: Our global organization of 200,000 young active citizens grew out of the vision of one St. Louisan more than 90 years ago as a constructive approach to civic problems. Founded in 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA by Henry Giessenbier, the movement spread, and Junior Chamber International was founded with eight other countries in 1944. • Mission: To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. • Vision: To be the leading global network of young active citizens. http://www.jci.cc/guests/

US Junior Chamber • History: Established in 1920 to provide opportunities for young men to develop personal and leadership skills through service to others, the Jaycees later expanded to include women, reflecting the growing influence and leadership of women in America. • Mission: The United States Junior Chamber (Jaycees) gives young people between the ages of 18 and 41 the tools they need to build the bridges of success for themselves in the areas of business development, management skills, individual training, community service, and international connections. • Vision: "With the focus of the nation on volunteerism, from the smallest towns to the largest cities, the Jaycees are enlarging areas of opportunity for young people." http://www.usjaycees.org

  6. Virginia Jaycees • History: Chartered in 1939. The VA Jaycees provide opportunities to improve on one's business skills, provide networking opportunities, perform community service, and offer many fun social opportunities. Over 27 chapters are located throughout the State of Virginia, and there are nearly 2000 chapters nationwide. • Mission: The mission of the Virginia Jaycees is to create a better world by empowering young people. We are a people-development organization that seeks to create positive change in ourselves, our organization and our community by helping people through personal growth, leadership development and community involvement. • Vision: Everything we do must encourage young people to become members and to take full advantage of our world-class fellowship, community service and leadership training opportunities. http://www.va-jaycees.org

NOVA Region Jaycees • 5 Regions of VA: • Atlantic (10 Chapters) • Highland (6 Chapters) • Capital (11 Chapters) • Mountain (5 Chapters) • Northern Virginia (3 Chapters) • NOVA Chapters • Alexandria • Arlington • Downtown (DC) • Reston* (Charter in 2010) Special Note: Reston Jaycees need 20 members to become an official Jaycee chapter of Virginia and the U.S. So, please join us and spread the word!

  8. Reston Jaycees • Be part of history in the making: The Reston Jaycees plans to be chartered this year. The chapter’s mission is to empower young people in Reston by providing opportunities for personal growth, leadership development and community involvement. This chapter intends to be very international and involved in JCI programs and National Involvement programs like “G.A.L.S” (Governmental Affairs Leadership Seminar).
