Measuring Angles

Measuring Angles. Quick Review. Right Angles - Looks like an L and is exactly 90 º. Obtuse Angles - an angle measuring more than 90º - between 90º and 180º. Acute Angles - an angle measuring less than 90º - between 0º and 90º. Vertex - point where 2 lines of an angle meet.

  1. Measuring Angles

  2. Quick Review Right Angles - Looks like an L and is exactly90 º

  3. Obtuse Angles - an angle measuring more than 90º - between 90º and 180º

  4. Acute Angles - an angle measuring less than 90º - between 0º and 90º

  5. Vertex - point where 2 lines of an angle meet.

  6. Use a single letter to name the angle. Naming Angles A B B C

  11. Using a Protractor

  12. Parts of a Protractor Center Hole

  13. Straight Edge

  14. Curved Edge

  15. Step 1: Place the center hole over the vertex of the angle

  16. Step 2: Line up the straight edge with one side of the angle

  17. Step 3: Find the point where the second side of the angle intersects with the curved edge

  18. Step 4: Read the number on the protractor to find the measure of the angle

  19. PRACTICE!

  20. Drawing Angles with a Protractor

  21. Step 1: Draw a ray with the straight edge of the protractor

  22. Step 2: Place the center hole over the starting point of the ray

  23. Step 3: Place a dot at the angle measure you want

  24. Step 3: Line up the straight edge over the starting point of the ray and the dot

  25. Step 4: Draw a ray connecting the two marks. The point they meet is called the vertex

  26. Practice Drawing Angles Using a protractor, draw the following angles with the given measures. • 1. 85° • 2. 15° • 3. 140°
