  2. China’s Central Committee meets in bejing During this meeting, the next generation of the leaders of China will be discussed, along with other issues. They are discussing who will lead China after President HuJintiao & his office must step down, and retire a year from now, in 2012.

  3. Chinese struggling less than Americans to afford food According to a poll, 20% of Americans felt they couldn’t support their families with food. Only 6% of Chinese people felt the same way. Also explored was the ability to afford housing. Americans who were unable to have an adequate shelter rose from 5% in 2008, to 11% in 2011. Whereas the percentages in the Chinese population dropped from 21% to 16%. China’s middle class is growing, as the United State’s lower class is growing as well.

  4. China's Ai Weiwei named most powerful figure in the art world Ai Weiwei has been an activist for China’s human rights. He has inspired many artists to realize art isn’t only working within walls or a museum. Ai Weiwei believes that art’s context is what’s happening now, around us, in the real world. Ai Weiwei has reminded the world that the freedom of expression is a necessity to people’s rights. Art Review, the magazine has named him the most powerful figure in the art world.

  5. Independent Candidates Score First Victory in Chinese Elections In Foshan, China, GuoHuojia & Li Youzhou won seats in their city’s government. These two men fought for the rights of villagers. Mr. Guo and Mr. Li are fighting for villagers whose land was torn apart from them for property developments, which is a large complaint amongst villagers.

  6. Hit-and-Run Tradgedy A two year old was ran over. 18 people passed the young girl, who failed to help her in any way. Professor Xingdou stated “The Chinese government has made economic development its central task, which means everything is money-centered. . . . Both the legal system and the moral system have been sacrificed to money­making.” The debate is whether China has become money-hungry and forgotten their moral obligation. The driver who ran over the young girl Had said that it was cheaper to pay the family money if the Girl is dead (10,000 to 20,000 Renbi) ($3-5 thousand) As opposed to If she was alive, in the hospital. It would cost him hundreds Of thousands of Renbi in medical bills.

  8. Huaxi Tower This skyscraper, located in Huaxi (famous for being China’s richest village), is one of the world’s tallest buildings, at 328 meters Tall with 72 stories. This tall building features a solid gold ox kept inside. This incredible tower is the latest symbol of China’s economic expansion.
