  2. “If anyone is above reproach…” • Spiritual maturity in the home (v 6) • Maturity in personal character (v 7-8) • Maturity in sound doctrine (v 9)

  3. Home Life • “the husband of one wife” • One-woman man (Mt 19:4-6) • “believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination” • Competent spiritual leader in home (1 Tim 3:5)

  4. A Team Effort • Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens…” Genesis 1:26 • Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Genesis 2:18 • Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become oneflesh. How to prepare for office of a bishop: Read the Bible aggressively Let God’s Word cut you open (Heb 4:12) Meditate, pray, confess, & repent as you read Ask someone who knows you well to give an honest character evaluation Go beyond handouts in Bible class Stay current on doctrinal issues Teach as often as possible Express to elders your desire Pray for help!
