Understanding the Taiga Biome: Geography, Climate, and Biodiversity Insights

The Taiga biome, characterized by its cold climate and diverse ecosystems, has unique geographical features such as rivers, streams, plains, and mountains. Winter temperatures can drop to -65°F, while summer peaks at 70°F. This biome hosts a variety of life, including evergreen trees and animals like Siberian tigers, deer, and lynx, with over 364 species observed in Russian taiga. Adaptations such as waxy-coated plant limbs and snowshoe-like lynx paws enhance survival. Additionally, biotic and abiotic interactions shape the ecosystem, with human activities like mining posing threats.

  2. TaigaGeography & Climate Geography -Rivers –Streams. -Plains –Mountains. Climate • Winter's LOWEST temperature in taiga is -65°F. • Winter's HIGHEST temperature is 30° F. • Summer's LOWEST temperature is 30° F. • Summer's HIGHEST temperature is 70° F.

  3. TaigaBiodiversity • Plant- Evergreen Trees • Animal- Siberian Tigers, deer ,elk ,lynx • Total not known but there are 364 species in the Russian taiga.

  4. TaigaAdaptations Needed for Survival • Plant-Waxy coated limbs so that snow falls of easily. • Animal- Lynx paws are like snow shoes.

  5. TaigaInteractions of Biotic and Abiotic • Biotic- Ermines turn brown in summer and white in winter. • Abiotic- Mining results in pollution of rain and soil.

  6. What is Biodiversity? • Variety of plant and animal species in an environment

  7. How Does Biodiversity Contribute to the Sustainability of an Ecosystem?
