Amur Leopard Decline Kelly Kampfmueller NR 2984 Invent the Sustainable Future Technical Briefing Photo: WWF
Problem Statement -Ideally, the Amur leopards in eastern Asia would not be nearing extinction and have a healthy population so as to sustain the biodiversity in that area of the world. -In reality, the Amur leopards are continuously being poached for their beautiful furs, and do not have enough numbers to sustain the biodiversity for their habitat in eastern Asia.
Options Considered Solutions: • Heavier Legal Protection • Prevent all poaching • Expand boundaries of national park • Educate Public • Teach students and young children • Increase awareness publicly through ads and campaigns • Rehabilitation of Species • Breed more in captivity • Increase prey population
Evidence • Stop poaching and trade of the world’s rarest wild cat • One step taken is the monitoring of the population Photo: WWF Anti-poaching brigade in Russia
Conclusions • Another solution is the rehabilitation of the species • Breeding in captivity • Increase in prey populations • Continuing to protect the habitat
