Why was the Hitler Youth so important to the Nazi’s? LEBENSRAUM (living space for Germans) CONTROL Hitler Youth • CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE • MORE IMPRESSIONABLE • MOST LIKELY TO REBEL • GET TO PARENTS THROUGH THEM Boys trained to be warriors to fight Girls trained to be mothers Aim To create a strong united Germany Where only Nazi ideas are allowed.

Did all young people join the Hitler Youth? • By 1939 there were 8.9 million 10-18 year olds • The membership was 7.3 million • So more than 1.5 million did not join despite it being compulsory. • Why not?
