OPD Mission The advancement of science and engineering related to: • The dissemination of knowledge and information in the area of power reactors with particular application to the production of electric power and process heat. • Power plants, research and test reactors, and other nuclear facilities, including but not limited to design, construction, economics, licensing, quality assurance, fuels, management, and public acceptance. • The safe and efficient operation of nuclear facilities, including power reactors, research and test reactors, and other nuclear facilities, through professional staff development, information exchange, and supporting the generation of viable solutions to current issues.

Division Governance • Bylaws & Rules Status • No recent changes • Planning Status • Much of the Division’s focus has been on: • Maintaining UWC Relevance • Mobilizing around updating policy statements • Determining how to best allocate the fund balance • Communication: • http://opd.ans.org • ANS Collaborate • Newsletter – it has been over a year. The team is looking to use ANS Collaborate and ANS Nuclear Café Blogs, co-posted to the OPD Website.

  5. Division Membership Trend • OPD Membership Trends follow “The Nuclear Renaissance” • OPD Leadership supports the ANS initiatives which strive to maintain the society’s relevance in this time.

Division Finances • UWC is the backbone of OPD Finances • OPD Supports Students’ and Young Members’ growth in the society financially with significant funds • All scholarships are fully funded • OPD Exec will issue an RFP to have ANS members help us provide benefit to whe whole ANS using the OPD Fund Balance

Contributions to Society • We Have a Fund Balance • What we Want: • We will solicit ideas among ANS Leaders for ideas on how OPD Funds could be used to kick-start programs which generate revenue for ANS and affect the long-term sustainability of the Society • Schedule: • RFP – Late 2016 • Idea submittals – Early 2017 • OPD Exec Decisions/Votes – June 2017

OPD Contributions to ANS • ANS Position Statements • Three position statements retired • Two position statements being drafted • Others are actively being revised/updated to maintain relevance. • ANS Meetings • The Utility Working Conference is the premiere ANS meeting for Utilities, hosted at Amelia Island • With 250 Comps provided in 2016, the meeting was still profitable to ANS and to OPD, while significantly increasing Utility enrollment

  10. Areas of Success • Broad participation of OPD Members throughout the Society and Committees including YMs • Utility Working Conference (continued growth to major meeting) • ICAPP • Scholarships • Student Support (conferences and travel) • Awards (UWC and National technical sessions)

Future Focus Areas • Utility Involvement in ANS • Maintain the Utility Working Conference as the premiere topical meeting for utility participation. • Provide national meeting program choices which engage utility concerns • Actively identify Utility and Industry ANS Fellow nominees • Maintain and stengthen alignment with the ANS Strategic Plan’s Mission Imperatives • Continued Student Support and engagement • Use OPD Fund Balance to benefit ANS • A Request for Proposal has been drafted • OPD Exec will choose projects in the June 2017 Meeting
