Purpose To allow clinics, agencies, tribes, and others to • Share a consistent picture of a situation as it unfolds (geographically) • Quickly locate facilities and resources on a map • Get real-time updates of status and available resources • Search the web for anything near an incident • Post notifications to members participating in a conference • Update their contact information and provide real-time status • Update their inventory of available resources and request for aid

  3. Components The Online Emergency Management Tool Consists of: • Regional Maps and Surveillance Tool • Contact/Status/Resources Update Tool • Database Search Tool • Local Maps and Web Search Tool • Conferencing Tool • Administration Tool

  4. Maps Tool: Login • Multiple users can login and join a conference • Options for Organization will change depending on the conference

  5. Maps Tool: Identify an Incident 1. Select incident type (e.g. Biological) 2. Click on location of incident (e.g. Long Beach) zoom tool search tool • Simple 2-step process to identify an incident • You can zoom, pan, and search the map

Maps Tool: Overview • who, what, when status line • clickable list of health programs • google map • data filters • search • real-time resources at a glance • Lists change in real-time as you zoom, pan, and click the map • Color indicates status • Resources change in real-time as updates come in

  9. Database Search Tool • search NAAEP database • choose search criteria • click Search • view search results • User can search for programs having some amount of resources

  13. Local Maps/Web Search Tool: Overview • See a close up view of area surrounding incident • Mark the radius of incident • Search the web for local hospitals, fire departments, etc. • Create and save new searches

Local Maps: Features • Search local area • results displayed on map • map adjusted to fit search results • icons differentiate searches • adjustable radius of incident • yellow box provides visual indication of distance from incident • slider controls size of box • saved searches • useful for most incident types • use filters to select which results to see • temporary searches • search for anything • can be filtered like saved searches • Satellite view of local area • User can search the web for anything • useful for locating/selecting alternative care sites or POD sites • uses Yahoo! Maps search facility

  16. Conferencing Tool: Overview • See who has joined the conference • View notifications for the conference • Post new notifications

  17. Conferencing Tool: Create Notifications • Create a new Notification • Notifications can be given a • Subject • Message • Status code

  18. Conferencing Tool: View Notifications • View Notifications • expand to see message • collapse to hide detail • Notifications are easily expanded and collapsed • Most recent messages appear at top • Timestamp is adjusted to viewers timezone

  20. Administrative Tool: Example e.g. add a new AHP • 1. enter new AHP information • 2. click Add Simple 2-step process to add an Ambulatory Health Program to the database

  21. Summary Communication is greatly enhanced by: • graphical/geospatial visualization of information • ability to filter information • database and web searching • real-time updates => everybody has a consistent up-to-date picture • multi-user conferencing
