  2. Main Verbs and Helping Verbs • Helping Verb- helps the main verb tell about an action or make a statement. • Verb Phrase- consists of one or more helping verbs followed by a main verb. They are acting in the play.

  3. Common Helping Verbs(Must come before another verb) • Are • Been • Does • Have • Do • Am • Is • Was • Were • Has • Had

  4. Past Participle • Form of the verb that is in the past tense • Includes the words have, hasor had • Includes the past form of verb (-ed) She has acted everyday. We had achieved our goal. I have named him number one. We had won the game.

  5. Present Participle • Form of the verb that is in the present tense • Includes the word are and is • Includes –ingat the end of the verb We are acting in the play. The groups are performing tonight. She is running the race.
