Minoan Civilization (2800 B.C. – 1450 B.C. • Located on Crete • Grew wheat, barley, grapes and olives. • Used their metalworking and carpentry skills to build ships, became a major trading civilization. Traded pottery, armor, and jewelry. • Largest city was Knossos: Contained a five-story palace.

Decline of Minoan Civilization • Disappeared mysteriously around 1400 B.C. • Legend to explain the fall of the Minoans: Theseus and the Minotaur. • Greek prince Theseus is brought to Knossos to be sacrificed to the Minotaur (monster the Minoan king kept in the palace labyrinth). • Theseus kills the Minotaur with a magic sword, the Minoans lose all of their power.
