Post 16 Exam Results & Headlines This is Highgate Wood’s best ever set of A Level results!!!
However.... • Early analysis shows that we could have done even better still! – some issues beyond our control, but some that we can learn from • The pressure remains on this year to achieve (or hopefully exceed) our next target which is 72% • Never again should we return to results in the 40s and 50s (or even the 60s if we are to be outstanding) • The work goes on.... There are still more improvements to be made... 1st place in Haringey is up for grabs!!! Subject Performance
Where we could have done even better... • Of those students who achieved 5 + A*-Cs • 15 students achieved a C in maths but not in English • 10 Students achieved a C in English but not in maths • The additional 25 students would give us 82% • English Grade Boundaries • We had 16 students who missed the C by 9 marks or less; 11 of whom would have attained 5 A*-C with English and Maths. (Taking the school up to 180/236 = 76.3%) • We had 21 students who missed the B by 9 marks or less; • We had 37 students who missed either an A or A* by 9 marks or less. Back to slide 7
Subject Performance.... Some Highlights Maths • 81% A*-Cs – highest ever and better than last year by 8% (and significantly better than the national figure of 58%) • 35% A* and A grades (compared to the national average of 17%) • 37 students achieved A*
Subject Performance.... Some Highlights Spanish • 89% A*-Cs (compared to the national figure of 74%) History • 68% A* and A grades (compared to the national average of 30%) Biology • 83% A* and A grades (compared to the national average of 46%)
Subject Performance.... Some Highlights Chemistry • 73% A* and A grades (compared to the national figure of 48%) Science • 27% A* and A grades (compared to the national average of 10%) ECS • 78% A* - C grades (compared to the national average of 74%) – based on 213 entries – significantly more entries than most other non-faith schools
Subject Performance.... Some Highlights BTEC Music • 100% pass rate Media Studies • 89% A*-C grades (compared to the national average of 67%) English Literature • 94% A*-C grades (compared to the national average of 76%)
Subject Performance.... Some Highlights English • 80% A*-C grades (compared to the national average of 66%) Textiles • 78% A* and A grades (compared to the national average of 19%) Drama • 88% A*-C grades (compared to the national average of 73%) – particularly given the problems with the exam board last summer that affected the results
Overall.... • Again, we have much reason to be pleased and much to celebrate! • Following the significant jump from last year to maintain and improve was important, i.e. No blip – we should enjoy this and feel proud! • It also gives us and our students even greater reason to talk about HWS with renewed pride • We have made a positive difference to our students, maintained the highest of expectations of them, and inspired their self belief!!!
A New Mission Statement... ‘Making a positive difference to students’ achievements and experiences, maintaining the highest expectations and inspiring self belief’
