  3. My Teaching Experience • This is my 14thyear teaching. • 1999-2000: Substitute • 2000-2001: 5th grade • 2001-2002: 4th grade • 2002-2004: 5th grade (2 years) • 2004-2006: 6th grade (2 years) • 2006-2011: 5th Grade (5 years) • 2011-2012: 4th Grade at Deskin!

Consequences for Misbehavior • Verbal Warning • Identify the student’s undesired behavior and ask it to stop. • Time Out in the Classroom • The student will take a “timeout” and think about their behavior. • “Time to Think” in Another Classroom. • The student will be sent to another classroom to fill out a “Time to Think” form. Sent home to be signed. • Together the child and teacher will call a parent to discuss the issue and help resolve it over the phone. • A Parent/Teacher Conference will be scheduled. *Acts of Aggression, Destruction of School Property, Foul Language, Ditching will result in an immediate referral to the office.

  7. Common Core State Standards • Nevada has joined a nationwide initiative to streamline standards across states. • This is our second year and we are implementing more CCSS this year.

  13. Homework • Students will have about 40 minutes of homework every night. This includes the Math Workbook page, 20 minutes of reading and 10 minutes of math facts practice. • If class time is wasted, or a student struggles with the content, they might need to finish their classwork at home.

  14. Classwork/Homework Assignment Sheets • You will receive your Assignment Sheet on Mondays (starting Sept 6th). • It will inform you of what days assignments are given and due. • Once a month it will have a newsletter on the back or attached that contains information about upcoming events in our grade level.

  15. Progress Reports/SBRC • Progress Reports will begin to go home on September 17thand every 3 weeks after that. • No More Letter Grades or Percentages • “I”, “Em/Dev”, Approaching, Meets, Exceeds • Any missing assessments listed on the progress reports must be made up immediately. • If they are not turned in by the end of that week, the grade in the grade book will become an “I” until made up. • “Emerging” and “Approaching” assessments can be redone and resubmitted for a possible “Meets.”

  16. Missing Homework • All assignments for each week are listed on the Classwork/Homework Sheet given on Mondays, starting on September 4th. • All assignments must be turned in by the last day of that school week (Friday) or they must be completed over the weekend. • If they are not turned the first day of the following week, the assignment will not be accepted and will affect the “learner behaviors” section of the report card and the student may receive recess detention or loss of an activity.

  17. Kagan Learning Structures • Students are seated in learning teams (squadrons). • Varied levels are present in all groups. • Students will process information and practice skills by talking to each other in a Kagan Structure. • Each student participates in some way (no hiding) • “When you do well, we all do well…”
