  1. Mr. Reno’s Third- Grade Class Welcome, students!

  2. Welcome to Third Grade! • I will get to know you a little bit and show you the classroom. • If you have any questions during the presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.

  3. Teacher Info • My background • I was born in Liberty Missouri. • However, I was raised in Cameron Missouri and went to all of the schools here. • My experience • I’ve been teaching for 2 years. • This is my second year as a third-grade classroom teacher.

  5. My Goals • To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to fourth grade. • To provide a supportive, safe, secure, and fun classroom environment. • To help you make new friends, and let you know learning can be fun, and discover new interests.

  6. Tips for Parents • Any homework will be in the students GREEN folder. So check this daily in your son/daughters backpack. • Red folders are Not to leave the classroom!! • Parents can chaperone on any field trips (Just let me know!!).

  7. Classroom Community • Our classroom is like a “community.” In our “community,” we have rules to help us get along with one another. • Our class rules are: • Be respectful and responsible. • Be organized and follow directions. • Treat everyone the way you want to be treated • Be on time. • Be prepared to learn.

  8. Homework • I will assign about 40 minutes of homework each night. 20 minuets is reserved for reading. • Your homework is due on the following morning. • If you need extra time to work on your homework or have questions, you can go to homework helpers during recess to work on it, or after school.

  10. Tardiness • School starts at 8:00 A.M. • If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class. • If you are tardy four times, the school will contact your parents, and the child will receive a detention.

  11. Class Grading Factors • Attendance 5% • Assessments 50% • Class work 15% • Homework 10% • Written Assignments 20% (Writing prompts/Many essays)

  12. Field Trips • We have lots of fun field trips planned for this year! • We will attend two plays at the Children’s Theater as part of our reading units. • We will visit Maple Grove park and take water samples from the river as part of our science unit on the environment. • We will tour a bakery as part of our social studies unit on community.
