Kirjeldus • New York- inglise keeles ametlik nimi City of New York; mitteametlik nimi New York City, et eristada linna New Yorgi osariigist, kus ta asub. • See onUSA suurima elanike arvuga linn ning México järel elanike arvult teine linn Põhja-Ameerikas. • NY hüütakse USA-s hellitavalt "Big Apple" (Suur Õun) ning teda peetakse üheks maailmalinnadest.

Linna elanike arv ületab 2000. aasta rahvaloenduse järgi 8 miljoni piiri ja pindala on linnal 831 km². • New York on üks maailma finants-, kaubandus- ja majanduskeskusi. • New Yorgis on immigrante rohkem kui 180 riigist, see on üks kosmopoliitsemaid kohti maailmas. • New Yorgis asub ÜRO peakorter.
