  2. Theme- A topic; a major idea or suggestion large enough to cover a literary work or work of art in its entirety. Watch Star Wars clip Pick a movie or book and explain the theme of good versus evil. 1. Who is on the side of good and who is on the side of evil. 2. What is appealing about the side of evil? 3. Why does the hero remain on the side of good? 4. Does good triumph over evil in the end? 5. What message do you think the author is trying to send regarding the theme of good versus evil? 6. Is there anything else you would like to mention about the theme of good versus evil in your selection?

  3. What is the difference between superhuman & supernatural? • Superhuman • This is a person with abilities that other humans don’t have • Batman, X-men characters, Achilles • Supernatural • This is not a human. • Spirits, ghosts, witches monsters, etc

  4. Divine Intervention • Divine intervention is when the hero receives help from a god or another supernatural force. (This happens often in epics) • Ex: Athena urges Achilles not to fight Agamemnon, Gandalf helps Frodo escape the dragon.

  5. Example EQ Response from Block 1 • “I have been treated as if I only had a single story but once they meet me they have a completely different opinion about me. The reason why I think people judge others is because they only have a modicum of information about them. The same thing has happened to me. I once had class with a person who I had been told was very stuck up. When I begin talking to that person I realized how much different they were then what I had been told. My lesson ever since that day was never to judge a person until you meet them.”

  6. Example EQ Response from Block 4 • I had always looked at people from third world countries as being poor. I really don’t know why but I think it's because I haven’t seen anyone from third world countries. Now that I have visited Jamaica, I realize my single story was false. • (At the end of the day, the students has a modicum of energy left.)
