Mission • To provide the students of Chicago Public Schools, an opportunity to Develop Academically, Physically, Mentally, Socially, and Emotionally in Controlled, Safe Activities outside of the Traditional Classroom • To Enhance Academics, Fitness, and General Learning Opportunities • To Develop Life Skills that will assist students in all areas of their Future Endeavors • To Align Sports with the CPS Education Plan Goals: • Building Instructional Capacity • Support Student Development, Post Secondary Training and Education • Establishing Schools as Centers of Communities in Partnerships with Families • Helping to Develop the Whole Child Beyond Sports

Ed Curriculum/Certification of Lifeguards • 21 Driver Education Centers • Club/Crowd Control/Intramural Monies • P.I.S., I.S.P. and S.M.I. • 7 Citywide Stadiums • Summer Sports Camps

Outcomes from Sports Participation • Inspires School Spirit and Builds Self-Esteem. • Functions in concert with the school agenda to reach and serve the students. • Enlightens students with a sense of belonging, self-worth, direction and confidence. • Teaches Students to Recognize Rules, Regulations, and to Conduct Themselves Accordingly • Influences Participants toward Desirable Character, Health and Physical Development. • Develops skills such as Decision Making, Dedication, Commitment, Teamwork, Camaraderie, and Trust that will be useful throughout life.

Performance Measures • The Chicago Public Schools Interscholastic Athletic Program exists as an enhancement to the goals, objectives and curricular • expectations as set forth by the Chicago Board of Education and the Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Public Schools. • Our internal research has shown that sports: • Enhances the Total School Program • Lowers the Risk of Obesity • Improves Attendance/Lowers the Dropout Rate • Lessens Discipline Referrals • Sufficient Participation Improves Health. • Higher G.P.A.
