INTERACTIVE TALK Encourage trainees to be active ,inquisitive and PROBING…… ILLUSTRATIVE TALK Lecture method supplemented by use of illustrations including audio-visuals (like training CDs of HCoI) BRAINSTORMING involvement of trainees let some ideas emanate from trainees. Sometimes seemingly irrelevant idea, after discussion, leads to a practical idea.

  7. GROUP/PANEL DISCUSSION Let a trainee be group promoter , group advisor and facilitator/moderator PLAY METHOD in 2nd and 3rd phase training, pilgrims can display skills learnt with trainer as a guide ( like Ahram wearing, saie, ramal, jamrat etc).

  8. EVALUATION OF TRAINING • SHCs should conduct periodical assessment of training process • Regular visit to training venues. • Seek feedback from the pilgrims.

  9. TEN COMMANDMENTS 1. Share learning with trainees, don’t impart knowledge 2. Be creative and encourage creativity • Supplement your talk with illustrations, visuals, models etc. • Start by inculcating interest in the subject, end up by creating a desire to learn more.

  10. TEN COMMANDMENTS ( CONTD…..) 5. Maximum use of 2-way communication, invite queries and respond . 6. Build a potential cadre of trainees among a sub group- who can continue the process at their own level beyond specified training days. 7. Asses your own role as a trainer and make honest and geniune rectifications.

  11. TEN COMMANDMENTS (CONTD….) 8.Equip yourself with knowledge of recent developments (like policy changes; changing Saudi civil laws; ongoing construction and resultant regulations) 9. Think and act on developing new tools and techniques to make the training more exciting. 10. Behave in a decent but unique may,. Make your Usp with which trainees can associate some training tips.

  13. CREATEA CONDUCIVE ATMOSPHERE • Encourage pilgrim trainees to be active. • Accept that difference is desirable. • Tolerate imperfection; make people feel respected and accepted • Emphasize cooperation but permit disagreement

  14. TRAINER TRAITS • real Desire to take up the entrusted assignment. • Knowledge of subject matter and its regular updation as per latest developments . • Basic understanding of human behavior ….. Trainers should have fair idea of human psychology/ behavior. • trainees may confront whole range of human behaviour on display while working with pilgrims. It may range from enthusiastic to in- different to totally chaotic with raised voices (thereby making training difficult)……. with little bit of human psychology, know the real cause and resolve the crisis skillfully.

  15. TRAINER TRAITS CONTINUED … • Trainers are required to assess and formulate the training needs of pilgrims on the basis of their backgrounds…. (socio-economic, cultural, rural/urban, educated/uneducated etc….. ) • Knowing psychological traits of the learners shall also make the job easier.

  16. FOR SHCs….FORMULATION OF IMPRESSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM • Select the venue carefully • Not far off • Free from disturbances • Suitable timing when pilgrims are free from routine work (like agricultural commitments).

FOR SHCs….FORMULATION OF IMPRESSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM (CONTD…) • Gender responsive • Separate training sessions for women pilgrims. • Encourage female trainers. • Arrange a lecture by a lady medico, who has performed Haj (if available). • Create effective learning environment, free from distractions.

  18. FOR SHCs….FORMULATION OF IMPRESSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM (CONTD) REINFORCEMENT OF TRAININGS • Occasional meetings. • Interaction with ex-trainer s. • Continuous feed back and its use. • Follow up: a proper plan of action to ensure meaningful follow up.

  19. SUGGEATIONS FOR HCI • 1. To emulate the best practices of Haj Training from countries like, Malaysia, Turkey and Iran. 2. Introduction of “Female Haj Groups” would require special measures for their guidance which should include Female Haj Guides. 3. Changes in Haj Policy need to be introduced among the pilgrims in a positive way. The Haj Trainers should act as HCI envoys. A special session on policy changes in ToT Programme would be in place.

  21. AIM:A rightly oriented Aazim-e- Haj • Give due emphasis on Manasiki-Haj. The main focus should be performance of Haj. Logistics should facilitate the same.

  23. PRE-DEPARTURE1 Get Going • Immediately after qurrah the pilgrims are enthusiastic. Organize a training camp immediately. • Educate about everything that pilgrims need to / need not to do for Haj travel. • Inform about baggage standards. • Introduce all that one needs to take and pack. • Give stay-fit tips • A daily walk • A lot of fluid in take • Etc

  24. A well informed Pilgrim • Educate about the facilities available without exaggeration or raising expectations. • Give correct information regarding • Distance of buildings from Haram in Green and Azizia in MakkahMukarrammah and Markazia or outside in Madinah Munawarrah • Steep and sloppy streets of MakkahMukarrammah leading to the HaramSharief.

  25. No strict segregation of males and females in the buildings (special arrangements, if any, for female pilgrim groups should be delineated by the HCOI in advance). • Limitations of lifts in buildings ………….. No. of pilgrims v/s no. of lifts. • Sharing of toilets and kitchen. • 2 to 20 beds in a single room depending on the capacity. • Availability of transport facilities for Azizia and the challenges involved.

  26. A good briefing is always good • Brief the pilgrims about constraints as well as facilities: - • Harshness of weather with temperature ranging between 45 to 50 degree during Haj season. • Traffic hazards and accidents. • Availability of limited space in Mina and food related issues in Masher Region. • Traffic regulations for Azizia especially around core Haj period.

  27. Availability of wheel chairs. • Assistance centers by Saudi Authorities at various locations. • Haram Task Force and its functions. • Availability of Khudam-ul-Hujaj for assistance of Pilgrims and their role. • Haj volunteers for ready assistance.

Educate about: • Indian Haj Pilgrims Office at Makkah Mukarammah and sub office at Madinah Munawarrah • Branch Offices and their working. • Availability of Medical Facilities and how to avail: • Dispensary attached to every branch. • 3 Main Hospitals at Makkah, Madinah and Azizia. • Referral Saudi Hospitals. • Round the clock Ambulance Service. • Doctors and Para Medics at call on emergency. • Camp office of Indian Haj Mission at Mina. Services available and how to avail.

  29. Ready to Move • Give workable tips about packing. Remind of the adage “it always pays to travel light”. • Don’t forget to carry essential items like travel documents & medicines along with prescription. • Segregate check-in baggage and hand baggage as per advise. • Don’t forget to write or paste a sticker containing name, address & cover number on the baggage. • Keep one printout inside the baggage. • Keep scanned copy of passport along. Keep one copy at home.

  30. ----Continued • Educate about Do’s & Don’ts at the Airport. • Familiarize about city check-in facilities at Haj House, if available • Give brief account of Immigration and Custom processes. • Reiterate the list of banned items. • Educate about etiquettes inside aircraft especially use of toilet.

  31. Arrival & Stay in Saudi Arabia • Give a detailed briefing about procedure at Jeddah / Madinah Airport like Immigration, Baggage Identification and travel upto the buildings. • Emphasize that this exercise is time consuming & needs patience.

  32. Be alert to be safe • The pilgrims are in a foreign land with all sorts of barriers like language, culture etc. They need to be given a comprehensive briefing like: - • Left hand driving and consequent safety measures to be taken. • Make it a habit to keep HCOI identity card / bracelet & hotel address card along. • Theft of cash and belongings and safety measures. • Frauds related to ATM, Recharge Coupons, Adahi Coupons. • Taxi Fraudsters . • You are being watched constantly. Over 3000 CCTV cameras installed by Saudi Authorities. Please don’t touch anything that is not yours.

  33. Lest you get lost in a crowd • Mobile phone most useful in tracking. Keep it always charged an on. • Keep an identity proof always with you. • Keep a map of Makkah, Azizia and Mina with you. • Remain in groups. Do first Umrah essentially in a group. • Keep phone numbers of Haj officials and fellow pilgrims. • Take proper care and keep track of fellow female pilgrims

  35. CORE HAJ PHASE • This is the most crucial phase of Haj Journey. The Pilgrims should be thoroughly oriented about their conduct during stay in Masher Region. This should include: - • Familiarization with Maktab and Moulim & their role during Haj. • Mina Movement, its timing etc • Stay in camps, (facilities available and constraints) • How to identify the camp (Street Number, Tent Number). • IHPO offices & assistance available. • Availability of Metro Train & precautions in boarding the Train while travelling from Mina to Arafat, Arafat to Muzdalifah & back to Mina.

Back Home • This phase is characterized by heavy rush in hospitals, cash loss, departure ticket loss, pre-poning of departure, shopping etc. • The pilgrims should be educated about size and weight limits of baggage. • City check-in procedure. • Availability of Zam Zam and restrictions in carrying zam zam in check-in or hand baggage. • Facilities of currency exchange on return at airport.

  44. Arrangements • Haj Committee of India makes all in land arrangements for Haj Pilgrims in association with State Haj Committees. These include: • Training of Haj Pilgrims • Vaccination • Endorsement of Visa • Foreign Exchange • Air Charter • Laison with Airlines, Customs and Immigration • Deployment of KhadimUlHujaj with the pilgrims • Deployment of Administrative and Medical Staff • Availability of Medicines at Saudi Arabia

  45. In Saudi Arabia all aspects are co-ordinated by Consulate General of India, Jeddah Establishment of Indian Haj Pilgrims Office In Haj Territory Facilitation of Immigration and other procedures at Jeddah and Madina Airport and their movement to the buildings. Co-ordination with Maktabs, South Asian Moassassa for movement of Pilgrims between Makkah and Madina and to Masher region. Hiring of Buildings and other arrangements for stay of Pilgrims. Elaborate Medical Facilities. City Check In on return journey .

  46. Paraphernalia CGI operate through a network of branches and Dispanceries for providing all possible facilities during their stay. These include: Makkah 13 Branches 13 Dispansaries One 40 Bedded Hospital in Aziziya One 30 Bedded Hospital in Azizya One 10 Bedded Hospital In Azizya Madinah 3 Branches 3 Dispansaries 15 Bedded Main Dispensary These offices / Medical Centres are ment by Staff on Temporary Deployment selected by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

The trainers should apparise the pilgrims about working of these offices and how to avail the facilities: Functions of different desks in the offices of CGI are: Co-ordination Desk: To co-ordinate between all branch offices and main office; Take care of death cases and burial Madina Movement Desk: Movement of Pilgrims between MadinahMunawarah and MakkahMukarama Building Welfare Desk: To attend complaints regarding accommodation and other issues in buildings

  48. General Welfare Desk: All general problems like loss of Passports, Lost of Baggage and Lost of Cash, Missing/Arrested Pilgrims etc. Missing Baggage Desk: To trace the baggage lost in transit KhadimUlHujaj and PTO Desk: MontoringKhadimUlHujaj and PTO’s Departure Baggage Cell: Handle remote City Check - In Control Room: Established at IHPO Makkah during core Haj. Under direct supervision of CG monitors movement of pilgrims to Mashar region. Haram Task Force: Stationed in front of Haram Sharief to guide the Pilgrims Computer Cell: Allotment of Accommodation , Air Flights and related issues Azizya Transport Desk: Oversee Azizya Transport facilities. Helpline Desk: Round the clock help desk at IHPO Makkah.
