  2. *In the Preterite some –IR verbs have stem changes that occur but only in the Ud./él/ella and Uds./ellos/ellas forms. *These changes are from e to i(for example: preferir) and from o to u(for example: dormir) *NOTE the special preterite spelling for the verbs and . reír (to laugh) sonreír (to smile)
