CRC says, children must… be assured of the following rights: Survival Rights – the inherent right to life, the right to a name and nationality, the right to identity and those dealing with parental and governmental duties and obligations, adequate and decent standard of living, access to basic health care and services, social security and rehabilitation Developmental Rights – refer to access to educational opportunities, relevant information, play, leisure cultural activities and rights to freedom of thought, conscience and religion

  4. CRC says, children must…be assured of the following rights: • Protection Rights – cover those rights which guard children against all forms of abuses, exploitation and discrimination in areas where a child is considered to be in extremely difficult circumstances • Participation Rights- pertain to the right of freedom to expression and to have one’s views taken into account involvement in decision making and consultative process freedom of association and assembly.

  5. What we did. . . . • Year 2000- Plan Samar Sponsored CFSS training in Cebu- attended by school heads and teachers from Sta. Cruz Elem School, Tarangnan and Tagnao Elem School, Gandara I.

  6. What we did . . . • Roll out of the said training- attended by the SDS and ES in English, Science, Math and Makabayan • Designation of the Division CFSS coordinator

  7. What we did. . . . • Planned a course of action for CFSS advocacy and orientation • Created a Division Team for Advocacy on School Based Health and Basic Education • Conducted division-wide orientation-training on CFSS • Plan invited teachers and administrators to attend series of trainings on Child Rights, CFSS, Health and Nutrition, Multigrade Teaching, ECCD and SIP.

What we did. . . . • Created a pool of trainers for SIP-SIC who conducted the SIC formation in different municipalities • School administrators were invited to attend NEAP training (SMILE-CSA) • Formulated SIP-RPMP • Conducted work-conferences on SIP Implementation and redirection. • Evaluated CFS implementation

  9. We were able to. . . . • Identify. . . • 8 Child-friendly schools in the Elementary and 2 in the secondary in SY 2003-2004

  10. We were able to . . . • Identify. . . • 6 Child-Friendly Schools in SY 2004-2005. 4 central schools and 2 non-central schools

  11. We were able to. . . • Identify. . . • 15 Child-Friendly Schools in SY 2005-2006. 10 central schools and 5 non-central schools

  12. Our Learnings…

  13. It Pays to… • First establish good rapport, open communications with partners before any major activities • Define directions • Involve all stakeholders • Have a full grasp of what is to be done and the proper way of doing things. • Accept a challenge as a learning experience • Be patient and open to suggestions to broaden one’s horizon • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects
