RADWG – Radiation working group

The Radiation Working Group (RADWG) at CERN, chaired by T. Wijnands, aims to support LHC equipment teams in improving radiation tolerance in their designs and systems. By coordinating radiation testing within CERN and collaborating with external facilities, RADWG serves as a comprehensive discussion platform for various departments. The group reports to the ICC and R2E task force, which has tasked them with investigating radiation tolerance specifically in LHC underground areas and assisting equipment groups in enhancing their systems against radiation effects.

RADWG Mandate • Assist the LHC equipment groups in their efforts to increase the radiation tolerance of their design or system • Coordinate radiation test of LHC equipment and materials in facilities inside and outside CERN • Act as a CERN wide discussion forum for various groups/departments • Reports to ICC and R2E task force Request from ICC and R2E : “To investigate the radiation tolerance of LHC accelerator equipment in the LHC underground areas (RRs, UJs, UAs, ...) and to assist LHC equipment groups in their efforts to increase the radiation tolerance of their design or system.”
