Police officers face significant health risks from infectious diseases in the line of duty. Hepatitis B (HBV) is a liver virus that can be prevented with a vaccine, but poses a 6-30% risk from needle sticks and is 100 times more infectious than HIV. Hepatitis C (HCV), which leads to liver disease, has no cure and is often symptomless in 80% of cases. Tuberculosis (TB) affects the lungs and can be prevented with the BCG vaccine, while HIV/AIDS attacks the immune system and lacks a cure. Awareness and prevention are vital for officers' safety.
