  2. Power in a Patriarchal Society Patriarchy is a system that justifies the relationship between gender and power within a society.A patriarchal society is male-dominated, male-identified, and male-centered. How do you see this in our society?

  7. What men do you see in the novel so far?

  8. Objective: SW…identify ways in Chopin depicts men in the novel and their effects on women. • Drill: Analyze the photo below in terms of patriarchy.

  9. What role do these men play in Edna’s life? In her awakening?

  10. In groups, complete the following: • For each of the following men, make a statement in regards to their role in Edna’s life and awakening. • Find a passage from the book to support this statement. • Analyze the passage, using a colormarking technique and create a powerpoint to share this analysis with the class.
