Culture Note • Name signs • ONLY assigned by Deaf person • Descriptive • usually reflect a persons appearance or behavior • EX: Ms. Shore’s name sign • Arbitrary • Usually initialized (first, middle, or last name) formed either in neutral space or contacting a single or dual location • EX: Ms. Jenkins’ name sign

  3. Age Numbers • Number range • 1-9 • Palm orientation • Out • Movement • From chin -> outward

  4. Exchange info about sibling • Follow this sequence • You oldest? (if no, ask next ?) • Which you? • *Use ranking or listing on ND hand only if you have 2+ siblings • Just 1 sibling = refer to “him” or “her” in space (on D side) • *Make sure you give SAME info for each sibling • EX: if you say NAME + AGE of one sibling you must give NAME + AGE of all other siblings

  6. Dialogue 1 • A: ask how many siblings B has • B: tell how many • A: ask where B ranks among siblings • B: tell where, and give additional info • Age • Name • Deaf/hearing • Favorite color? Birthday? Occupation?
