  1. Searching for articles in an online database: InfoTrac OneFile InfoTrac OneFile is one of the most comprehensive databases that C-N Libraries has. It has a wide variety of subjects and includes a large amount of full-text articles. It indexes a mix of scholarly journals, popular magazines, trade journals, and newspapers.

  2. Before you search begin to search, examine the database search screen!

  3. Now you are ready to search. • Topic: What are the effects of drug use among college students? • Keywords: drug use college students • Search statement: drug use AND college students

  6. Now, let’s limit the search to peer-reviewedpublications.

  8. What does it look like to access the full text article?

  9. What if it says “Citation” or “Abstract,” not “Full text”?

  10. Here is what it looks like to click on “Check Linksource.” Click on the “Check library holdings for this journal.”

  11. How do you search this journal title in the Library Catalog?

  12. Subject Searching • First, you identify the main concept that you are searching for: drug use • Then you will search that term in the “Subject Guide Search.” Sometimes you have to look for the Subject Term that the database uses. We will come back to that later!

  13. Click on the Subject Term “Drug Abuse” and this is what you get! Check out the Related subjects to see if there is a good better subject term to use!

  15. Click on “Subdivisions” under Drug Abuse and look at the way InfoTrac does this.

  16. Another way to find subject heading in InfoTrac. • Open a record from your search. • Go to the very end of the record and look at the subject headings listed there.
