  1. Web site? • Traditional static web site: • 1 editor enters and updates content • Navigation often problematic • ‘What is new’ not easy to know • Pull only: visitors must remember to visit your site

IODE = COMMUNITY • All community members should be able to submit content • We should be able to have several editors • We should have an easy to use tree structure • We should be able to combine text, links to documents, links to web sites and start discussions • We should be able to “harvest” content from multiple sites and display in other site • We should be able to inform users about new content • System must be Open Source,Low-cost and flexible

  3. What is available? • Did Survey of existing portals and software they use • Eg: OneFish: Oracle DB and custom-made software • Eg: Simplify (same concept as OneFish but commercial. mySQL/ PHP) • Eg: other commercial portal software • Ouch!! Costly: US$ 30,000- US$ 200,000 • Open Source?
