Writing resumes-Example Step 2: Before you write, determine/know your purpose: Background: • Tommy wants to convey that his experience—as assistant to the Chairman of FDU’s Biology Department, aide to a Yale geneticist, and organizer of a pharmaceutical club—shows that he’s able to relate well to BOTH academic and business people.

As assistant to Chairman of FDU Biology Department, aides in research and experiments concerning increase in diabetes among Chinese children. Helped write paper submitted to The American Journal for Human Genetics. Assisted Yale Medical School geneticist deliver lecture series. Communicates with and arranges for pharmaceutical company executives to speak before FDU student club. Seeks to parlay* education and work experience at leading global pharmaceutical company. * Means “use to achieve a relatively great gain.” Good resume word.
