  3. The Beginning In the beginning the world was nothing but ocean. Then, one day, an island emerged from the water. On that island, was a perfect egg. From it, hatched Re, the sun god. He filled the universe with his dazzling light. He created the world with his children, Nut the goddess of the sky, Shu, god of air, and Khonshu god of the moon.

  4. Egypt The plains that lay along the Nile provide resources for wild plants and animals. Slowly the climate became drier and drier, until it was a desert.

  5. Egyptian Tools Adz- An adz is a curved blade attached to a handle, used for carving wood. Shaduf- A shaduf is like a high pulley. It has a weighted end on one side and the other is a crate. Fill the crate with water and lift it up. Bow Drill- A bow drill is pretty much a bronze tipped stick with a handle at the top with a bow. You twist it back and forth like this, and you rub the bow to it like this.

  6. Gold • Gold was thought to be the work of the gods because it was colored like the sun. • Gold mine workers were chained, and even beaten if they were working too slow. That’s how badly they wanted gold. • King Tut’s gold mask weighed 22lbs .

  7. Other Metals • Tin and copper were found in egypt also. • When fused together they make bronze. • Bronze is used for making masks for the gods and statues.

  8. Plants Along the Nile • One of the most important plants was the papyrus reed. • It was used for papyrus (paper), sandals, pens, and many other things. • A few trees that grew along the Nile were the palm, the fig, and the sycamore.

  9. A Woman’s Role • The average low class woman had less rights than men but more rights than women in the very early 1900’s. • They had the right to own land, do business deals, and represent themselves in court. • The average woman took care of the house and the family.

  10. The End • The Egyptians were captured by King Kashta . They slowly lost their power. That was the end of the Egyptians. • Ma’is salama (goodbye).
