  4. IHS Statistics • ~1700 Students • 70% go to Four Year Colleges • 20% go to Two Year Colleges • Students Score Well Above State & National Averages on Exams

  5. Time Management • School, Family, Religion, Sports, Extracurricular Activities • Set a Target for Everyday • Prioritize Goals • Utilize Spare Time • Take Notes • Get Adequate Sleep • Keep Goals Realistic

  6. Organizational Skills • Assignment Notebook • Calendar • Neat Book Bag & Locker • To Do Lists • Clearly Labeled/Divided Binders & Folders

  7. Study Techniques • Set the mood • Silence? Music? Desk? Alone? Group? • Prioritize Subjects • Do your hardest first • Organize Materials • Study at the Same Time Everyday • Routine helps • Study with a Friend

  8. Note Taking Strategies • Keep All Notes for One Class in One Place • Date and Number Pages • Review Materials Before Class • Leave Blanks in Notes for Later Explanations • Jot Down Key Notes, Vocabulary, Facts, and Formulas AND highlight/underline • Review Notes Immediately After Class

Reading Comprehension • Annotate • Write notes in margins or on a separate sheet of paper • Do Research • If you do not understand certain information then look the topic up elsewhere • Use a Dictionary • Look up any words you come across that you do not understand • Write Questions • If you are confused while reading, write down questions you have so that you can ask your teacher

College Preparation • Make a Master Calendar with: • Test dates, fees, deadlines • Application due dates • Required financial aid applications and due dates • Recommendations, transcripts, and other materials • Your high school’s deadlines for application requests • Write Application Essay’s Ahead of Time and Have Professors Review • Ask for Recommendations • Send Transcripts • Financial Aid • Contact College to Make Sure They Received All Materials
