  2. Goalsfor the new year • The NT teaches goals with the words “aim” and “goal” • The NT teaches goals anytime there is a verse that implies change from point A to point B • Let us consider four areas of goal-setting in the NT

  3. Goalsfor the new year • More Christ-like in character • Christ is our model (Rom. 8:29; 1 Cor. 11:1; Heb. 12:1-2; 1 Pet. 2:21-22)

  4. Goalsfor the new year • More mature in growth • Personal growth (Heb. 6:1, 9, 12; 1 Pet. 2:1-2; 2 Pet. 1:5ff) • Bible growth (2 Pet. 3:18) • Church growth (Acts 16:5; Eph. 4:15-16; Rev. 2-3)

  5. Goalsfor the new year • More faithful in service • Service to God (Matt. 25:21,23) • Aim to please God (2 Cor. 5:9)

  6. Goalsfor the new year • More heaven bound in outlook • Like Paul (2 Cor. 4:18; Phil. 3:14) • Set your heart on heaven (Matt. 6:19-21; Col. 3:1-2) • Desire to go forward, not backward (Heb. 4:11; 11:13-16)

  7. 2018 Goals • Goals keep you from living aimlessly or drifting • Goals keep you from remaining the same; the status quo • Goals keep your priorities straight

  8. 2018 Goals • Goals allow you to hit your target; you will hit only what you aim at • What do you have your goal or aim set on (1 Chron. 22:19)?
