  3. Handouts • Timetable 2016 booklet • New first year students: information questionnaire - attach copy of Grade 12 (or equivalent) results plus ID/passport!

  5. Go to the Faculty Office immediately with your completed form (results & ID attached) if you have: • An International Baccalaureate; or • A Cambridge qualification, e.g. an IGCSE or A-Levels; or • Any other non-South African secondary school qualification.

  6. Admission requirements • BSc in Physical Sciences: • Valid National Senior certificate (NSC) • An APS without Life Orientation of 32 • 2 Languages one of which must be Afrikaans or English at level 4 or higher • Mathematics at level 5 or higher • Physical Science at level 5 or higher • Any 2 other subjects at level 4 or higher

Admission requirements • BSc in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics: • Valid National Senior certificate (NSC) • An APS without Life Orientation of 32 • 2 Languages one of which must be Afrikaans or English at level 4 or higher • Mathematics at level 6 or higher • Any 3 other subjects at level 4 or higher

Admission requirements • BSc in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics: • Valid National Senior certificate (NSC) • An APS without Life Orientation of 34 • 2 Languages one of which must be Afrikaans or English at level 5 or higher • Mathematics at level 7 • Any 3 other subjects at level 4 or higher

  9. Programme Information: Year 13 types of courses listed: • Fundamental (all UP students must take) • Core (compulsory courses in your programme that you must take) • Elective (list of courses that you are free to choose from)

  10. University RequirementAIM 102 or AIM 111 + AIM 121(6 credits) • Academic Information ManagementOffered in both semesters • Write competency test (Friday at 09h30) • Register only for AIM 102 • Registration is automatically updated based on results

  12. University RequirementAcademic Orientation UPO 102 (1 credit) • On-line university programme for all first year students intended to prepare them for university life. • Can be accessed once you’ve registered for a programme. • A progress mark will be recorded with the first semester results.

  13. Choosing electives • HOW MANY DO YOU NEED? • Depends on study programme • Some programmes have no electives, e.g. Geoinformatics, Actuarial and Financial Mathematics. • Make sure your choice of electives doesn’t result in a clash! • Consult your timetable book. • Further advice on sensible elective choices to be provided by departments. • Prepare a personal timetable – semester 1 only.

An all-purpose elective • Available as an elective in most (but not all!) programmes – check if it’s on your programme’s list of electives. • SCI 154 (English) Exploring the Universe – 1st semester 16 credits. • SCI 164 (Afrikaans) Verkenning van die Heelal – 2nd semester 16 credits. • No prerequisites, late afternoon lectures

  20. Go to the Faculty Office • As soon as your matric or A-level etc. results are available. • Need to change degree or programme. • Online system does not give you a subject choice as an option. • You made a mistake during online registration.
