Understanding Hydroelectricity: A Renewable Energy Source

Hydroelectricity is indeed a renewable energy source, harnessing water's gravitational energy to produce electricity repeatedly. The process involves constructing a dam in a valley to create a reservoir, where water is released to fall through the dam. This gravitational energy transforms into kinetic energy, turning turbines that generate electricity. While hydroelectric power is cost-effective and doesn't contribute to global warming, it has drawbacks, such as high construction costs, ecological impact on fish habitats, and potential aesthetic concerns.

  1. Hydroelectricity by:joseph prelaj 607

  2. Is hydroelectricity renewable Yes hydroelectricity is renewable because you can use it over and over again.

  3. How does it work • A dam is bulit across a valley, causing it to flood. • Water falls thourgh the dam.The gravitional energy of this water is converted to kinetic energy. • The kinetic energy of the water is used to turn a tubrine and generate electricity

  4. Advantages • -Its renewable • -cheap after bulit • -no global warming • -powered by water not people

  5. Disadvantages • -expensive to bulid • -distroyes most fishes habits • -unsightly • -hard to find a spot to bulid

  6. Refences • -wikiapedia.org • -google.com • -my science notebook • -science and sauris
