Objectives Students will be able to… • Determine how much money they will need to make next year/post college in order to maintain their desired lifestyle. • Use an assessment tool’s prediction of their areas of interest and strength in various career categories to research jobs in these categories. • Investigate the training, lifestyle and salary of various high-interest careers.

Reality check How much money will you need to make to establish the lifestyle you desire—next year or post college? http://www.jumpstart.org Under “Important Resources” on the right, click on “Reality Check,” then “Enter Reality Check” • How much money will you need to make per hour? • What should your yearly salary be for this lifestyle? • Does this seem reasonable to you? Why or why not?

  5. Which jobs are right for you? Now you know how much money you want to make. But, which job is right for you? Choose at least one of the following career tests. • These are the “free” versions, so you will have to register and then skip a lot of ads. • Fill out your worksheet under the category of the test that you took.

  7. Occupational Outlook Handbook The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a compilation of information produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For hundreds of different types of jobs, the handbook tells you: • the training and education needed • earnings • expected job prospects • what workers do on the job • working conditions http://www.bls.gov/oco/ • Choose the category from the left column • Click on a specific job for complete information

Which would you like to have? What would you need to do to train for these jobs?

  9. Exit ticket—Turn into your advisor!!! Make sure that you have filled out: • Information about your salary needs (first quiz) • Information from at least one of the career personality quizzes • Information from at least one career from the Occupational Outlook Handbook Now reflect: • What is most important to you in choosing a career? • What do you need to do to put yourself on the path to the career of your choice?
