South America. The World’s fourth largest continent with a population of 373 million. Because of the geographical features that discourage human settlement many are forced to live along the Populated Rim – the continents edges.

The World’s fourth largest continent with a population of 373 million. • Because of the geographical features that discourage human settlement many are forced to live along the Populated Rim – the continents edges. • The coastal region provides favorable climates, fertile land, and easy access to transportation systems. • Population Density is low compared the actual population because of land area!! • Example: Brazil has a large population of 184 million; however Brazil also has a very large land area resulting in a population density of only 56 people per square mile. Language: • Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and French are the main languages spoke throughout South America. • However, most South Americans are bilingual. • Religion: • Main religion is Roman Catholic • Protestant, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto, Islam, Judaism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and a combination of indigenous and Roman Catholicism are also practice throughout South America.
