This study explores the effectiveness of the Structured Analytic Interview (SAI) technique in police statement preparation. Two events are analyzed, focusing on traditional statement writing versus SAI methodology. Participants will prepare their statements as they normally would and compare the outcomes. Key questions include whether SAI leads to better statements, its transferability to varied events, and its contribution to evidential information value. Group testing will be organized to ensure balanced representation across different interview methods, facilitating robust insights into SAI's practical implications for law enforcement.

Police Study Event 1 : video 1 • Cond 1 Prepare statement (as per normal) • Cond 2- SAI – what instructions for the SAI-professional version ===Time Delay hours ===== Event 2: video 2 • Cond 1 and 2 – write your statement as you would normally for this
Questions • Does SAI result in better statements? • Does SAI transfer to other events? Next study: • Does it lead to more evidential information ie probative value?
Practicalities • For group testing – we need to split into 4 groups so that each group counterbalanced for event 1/2 • At Event 1, SAI V1; SAI V2; Statement V1; V2 • At Event 2 : keep track and swap • This could be nested by workshop if that is how we recruit
Questions for Becky • Access to Staffs Police-contact person? • Letter giving access for ethics/dates • Statement instruction • Group testing by workshop?
