If you did not turn in the work for the Ethos, Logos, and Pathos articles then please put them on the front table.

  2. “A Change of Heart About Animals” 1) What is the thesis or main idea of this whole article? 2) Write down all the evidence that the author uses to support their thesis 3) Now go through the article and write down all the "loaded words" : Loaded words and phrases have strong emotional implications and involve strongly positive or negative reactions beyond their literal meaning. For example, the phrase tax relief refers literally to deductions that a person might claim in order to reduce the amount of tax they must pay to their government. However, use of the emotive word relief implies that the tax was an unreasonable burden to begin with. 4) Does the author of this article use more ethos, logos, or pathos? If he uses multiple persuasive styles explain the 2 most used. 5) Which type of persuasive style is most effective on the reader? Explain in a paragraph.

  7. Starter day 1 • Directions: Copy the sentence, write “adj” over each adjective, write “verb” over each verb, and “noun” over each noun. 1. The lazy dog laid in his bed all day and slept. 2. The delectable chocolate bar remained on the table tempting everyone who walked by. 3. Rainsford sat in the arm chair smoking peacefully on his old, wooden pipe. 4. Zaroff sent the dogs after his unwilling victim only to see it brutally killed by a spear. Please put this away, take out your vocabulary homework and pass it forward, open your books to pg 19, take out the chart that goes with the story.

  8. Vocabulary • Please write down the following words: For homework: you will need to define each word, write each word in your own sentence, and write a synonym. Reminder: This is due on Monday

  9. “The Most Dangerous Game” We will read the story together. Please note, if you are being loud or not transitioning quickly then you will read the story on your own and do all the partner work on your own. Remember how we do reading in this class? We will stop at the bottom of each page of the story, or completion of the paragraph, and you will work with a partner to fill in the chart. We will have a test on this story at the end so please follow along.
