Advancements in Silicon Detectors: Insights from the 2014 Trento Workshop
The 2014 Trento Workshop in Genova highlighted significant advancements in silicon detector technology. With over 35 years of development, silicon µ-strip and pixel detectors continue to evolve. The workshop showcased innovative solutions to achieve high dose tolerance and improved geometrical efficiency, including 3D sensors and CMOS technology. Esteemed speakers shared insights into the future of charged coupled pixel detectors, originally pioneered in the 1970s. We extend our gratitude to all participants and organizers for a successful event and look forward to reconvening in 2015 in Trento!

1970’s … 2014 … and beyond • Silicon µ-strip detectors are still in the youth of their 35 years (*) • Pixel detectors came to life in early 1990’s (*) • They attract more and more generations of new scientists • 2014 “Trento” workshop in Genova • More and more Silicon engineering: • Detectors to stand highest doses (3D sensors) • To provide active edge / ultra slim edges to improving geometrical efficiency • charge multiplication for high dose and thin detectors • CMOS detectors: • As a way to reduce pixel size (and thickness) with the hope • Charged coupled pixel detectors (CCPD) and full monolithic (*) pioneered by Josef Kemmer in the 1970’s. The introduction of silicon strip detectors, produced with planar technology was a breakthrough in charm search experiments as early as 1979 (**) 1006 element pixel detector
