  2. General school policies & procedures

  3. Dress Code • 1) All shirts and blouses must cover midriff, back, sides, and all undergarments including bra straps at all times. All shirts, tops, and dresses shall have sleeves and cover the shoulders. • 2) Shorts, skirts, divided skirts, dresses and culottes are allowed. They must be mid-thigh length or longer. (Seminole High school allows shorts that are “modest” even though they may not be mid-thigh) • 3) All trousers, pants, or shorts must totally cover undergarments, including boxer shorts. • 4) All clothing, jewelry, or tattoos shall be free of the following: profanity; violent images, wording or suggestion; sexually suggestive phrases or images; gang related symbols; alcohol, tobacco, drugs or advertisements for such products. • 5) Safe and appropriate footwear must be worn. Inappropriate footwear includes, but is not limited to, roller skates, skate shoes, and bedroom slippers. • Further Clarification/Other Requirements: • A. Form fitting leotard/spandex type clothing (including sport bras) is not allowed unless proper outer garments cover it. • B. See through or mesh fabric clothing may only be worn over clothing meeting requirements. • C. Clothing must be appropriate size, with the waist of the garment worn at the student’s waist. • D. Clothing not properly buttoned, zipped, fastened, or with inappropriate holes or tears shall not be worn. • E. Clothing and footwear traditionally designed as undergarments or sleepwear shall not be worn as outer garments. • F. Sunglasses may not be worn inside unless a parent provides a doctor’s note to the school. • G. Bandanas or sweatbands are not allowed to be visible on school grounds during the regular school hours. • H. Hats or other head coverings may be worn during outside P.E. activities and may not be worn during any portion of the regular school day without the expressed permission of the principal. Hats worn at Seminole High – with the exception of PE – will be taken from the student. Students may pick up their hats in Student Services in exchange for an after-school detention. After the third hat offense, a referral will be written for defiance. • NO YOGA PANTS! (see A. above)

  4. Dress Code Consequences • *New Dress Code Discipline @ SHS • Students who come to school out of dress code (see School Board policy below) are subject to the following: • 1st Referral: - Verbal Warning / Asst. Principal calls parent • 2nd Referral: - Asst. Principal calls parent & student placed in In-school suspension room for rest of day • 3rd Referral: - Asst. Principal calls parent & student placed in In-school suspension room for rest of day • A student who is referred for dress code more than 3 times will be disciplined for defiance. • To read the dress code in its entirety, please see the PCSB Student Code of Conduct or the board policy manual online at this link: • http://web.pcsb.org/Planning/neola/NewBoardPolicy_Entire.pdf

  5. *New* TARDY POLICY • Once the tardy bell rings, all classrooms doors will be locked and closed. Students late to class will not enter until they have a pass giving permission to enter. • Late students will report to the front of the school – the intersection between the main hallway and hallway B (better known as the “T”) where there will be a table set up to process tardies. • For each tardy, the date will be recorded and students will be given a pass to class. Once a student gets more than five tardies for that period in the semester, a one hour administrative detention will be issued. • Subsequent to their fifth tardy, all additional tardies will be a one hour administrative detention. Record books will be kept for each period tardies. Students failing to attend administrative detention will be given ABS (Alternate Bell Schedule) for one day. This same consequence will occur for every missed administrative detention. • Students more than 10 minutes late to class will be placed in IC (A7 – In-school Suspension Room) until the end of the period. Students found roaming the halls will be considered skipping and receive progressive discipline for this infraction.

  6. Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices • A student may possess a cell phone and/or other electronic devices, but they must be powered off and concealed from view during class hours. • Students may use their cell phones before and after school and during their passing times. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action. • The best way to get in touch with a child during the school day is by calling the school office. The school’s staff is not responsible for preventing theft, loss, damage, or vandalism to these devices. • @ SHS – Students who use their cell phones without permission will surrender them to school personnel and may pick them up in the front office after school. After the third phone offense in a semester, an adult who is at least 21 years old and whose name is on the student’s clinic card must pick the cell phone up in the front office after school. • Acceptable uses of cell phones in this class: • Using class / education-related Smartphone apps, such as Word Reference, Google, or Socrative—only when given permission.

  7. My class policies and procedures:

  8. Expectations: • Be polite and respectful. • Be responsible for yourself / take responsibility for your actions. • Always give your best effort. 

  9. Course Objective:To further the students’ understanding of the French /Spanish language and culture of French / Spanish-speaking people throughout the world and to increase proficiency through practice in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of the language.

  10. Hall Passes • Students may not leave the first 10 min. or last 10 min. of class (unless emergency) • Must have hall pass if out of class – blue hall pass (preferred) or teacher hall pass • Student entering office or Student Services must have a blue hall pass stating reason and time.

  11. Procedure for using hall pass to go to the restroom in this class: To use restroom: 1) Ask permission (always). 2) Sign out with name and time on clipboard by side-board. 3) Take blue hall pass from the clip on the board and fill out the back with your information. 4) Go to the restroom / fountain across the hall. Upon returning, put pass back on clip and write the time you returned on the sign-out sheet. Note: Students should see me directly for passes to go to other destinations other than the bathroom or fountain. These passes will be written individually, by me, on a case-by-case basis.

  12. Procedure for turning in work: All work is to be submitted in the black trays—which are labeled by class name / period. Makeup work for all classes is to be turned in to the very bottom tray (all classes together). Note: Papers that are turned in to the wrong bin will not be graded. Rather, they will be placed in the “graded papers” basket—where students will have to dig them out and resubmit them in the proper place. These papers will be subject to late penalties. This latter procedure will also be the case for papers that are turned in with no name.

  13. Reminder: Use the class website as your “go to place” for all classroom information. http://www.quia.com/profiles/pwayman12 Note: Your first quiz will be based on the information from this presentation—as well as other information from the class website. What an easy grade!
