  2. The time commitment varies with the workload of the committee during particular times of the year. Some committees only meet once per month, but some meet more frequently. However, the following is an average time commitment per month that one might expect: • 1-2 committee meetings – 2-4 hours total • Meeting preparation (reading/soliciting SGA and student body input) - 4 hours total • Monthly reports to SGA - 1/2 hour total • Total = 6 ½ - 8 ½ hours per month (approximate) Time Commitment In addition to this estimated monthly time commitment, all committee representatives are required to attend amandatory training session (date and time to be announced). Elections: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 Students must apply for these committee positions, using the attached application form. Election by written ballot will be conducted on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the regularly-scheduled SGA meeting in SS/CB Lecture Hall. Candidates are not required to attend the election meeting. However, we stronglyencourage you to attend and to be prepared to make a two-minute presentation about why you believe you are the best candidate for the position. Following presentations from all candidates for a given committee, the SGA representatives may ask questions of the candidates to help them determine which person might be the best representative. Balloting will take place immediately following the Q&A session for each committee. Presentations and elections will be in the order in which the committees are listed on the following page and on the committee application, with the election result announced for one committee before proceeding to the next committee. FOR MORE INFORMATION Who is eligible to apply for these committee positions? All UH-Clear Lake students who are in good academic standing are eligible to apply to serve on these university committees. Students are expected to be registered for classes at UH-Clear Lake for the entire term of office, that is, through May 2011. In accordance with University policy, students are elected and/or appointed to committees through the Student Government Association. Student representation on committees is open to all UHCL students and is not limited to those students who are members of UHCL student organizations or the UHCL Student Government Association.   3. All University committees operate under the concept of shared governance, in which all constituent groups are represented. The committees listed below, termed “Shared Governance Committees,” are the three major committees on campus. These committees develop and monitor policies on all aspects of campus life, including but not limited to academics, planning and assessment, resource allocation, library and computing services, telecommunications, community and governmental relations, partnership development, fundraising, publications, and non-faculty personnel issues. • Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) • The responsibilities of this committee shall have the responsibility for coordination of all university-wide planning and budgeting activities as well as oversight of university assessment and fundraising. The PBC will review and recommend to University Council (UC) the various plans and their associated resource needs. The university president is the final authority on all such matters. The responsibilities of the PBC are University-wide planning, University-wide budgeting, Oversight of university assessment, Oversight of university fundraising. .The PBC shall have representatives of the administration, faculty, staff, library, an administrative vice-chair, the vice president for administration and finance and students. The elected members of the PBC will be expected to serve a one-year term. • Chair: Will be elected from the committee • Position: 1 student representative • Facilities Support Services Committee (FSSC) • The responsibilities of this committee shall have the responsibility for dealing with issues involving facilities, space, parking, computing and the library. FSSC will make recommendation on these issues to UC. Specifically, the responsibilities of the FSSC are University, school, or other constituent facilities and space needs, University, school, or other constituent computing needs, Library needs, Parking issues and policies. (FSSC) shall have representatives from the administration, faculty, staff, library and, an administrative vice-chair, the associate vice president for information resources students.  The elected members of the FSSC will be expected to serve a one-year term.  • Chair: Will be elected from the committee • Position: 1 student representative • University Life Committee (ULC) • The responsibilities of this committee shall include developing and monitoring the implementation of policies on issues affecting the lives of all the members of the university community. These shall include university and student policies, services to university constituencies and visitors; student and alumni issues; issues concerning the student center, ecology, and such special concerns as those of women, men, minorities, and the disabled; university-community relations; governmental relations; publications; fundraising; partnership development; fringe benefits and other non-faculty personnel matters. You may apply for two committees, but you can only be elected to one committee. If you choose to apply for more than one committee, please place your preferences in priority order.
