  1. Image • A figure in a plane that can be reflected, rotated, or translated to produce a new figure.

  2. Preimage • The original figure before any reflections, rotations, or translations have been applied

  3. Transformation • The operation that maps, or moves, the preimage onto the image

  4. Isometry • A transformation that preserves lengths.

  5. Reflection • Uses a line that acts like a mirror

  6. Line of Reflection • The line across which an image ins reflected

  7. Line of Symmetry • The figure can be mapped onto itself by a line of reflection in the figure.

  8. Rotation • Transformation in which a figure is turned about a fixed point

  9. Center of Rotation • The point around which the image is rotated

  10. Angle of Rotation • The amount of space an image is rotated from the initial point

  11. Rotational Symmetry • A figure that can be mapped onto itself after being rotated 90

  12. Translation • A transformation that slides the image along a straight line

  13. Vector • A quantity that has both direction and magnitude, or size, and is represented by an arrow drawn between two points.

  14. Initial Point • Starting point of the vector

  15. Terminal Point • Ending point of the vector

  16. Component Form • Combines the horizontal and vertical components of a vector

  17. Glide Reflection • A transformation in which every point p is mapped onto a point using more than one type of transformation

  18. Composition • Two or more transformations are combined to produce a single transformations

  19. Frieze Pattern • A pattern that extends to the left and right in such a way that the pattern can be mapped onto itself by a horizontal translation.
