What I Ask of the Kids • Come to school every day—unless you’re too sick. • Do your school work at a consistent time, place, and rate • Treat everyone with kindness
What Parents Can Do at Home • Create a comfortable environment for homework. • Make appointments outside of school time • Set an attendance goal of no more than 3 absences for the entire school year • If the X-Box goes on before homework is done, then a choice is being made. • Your student should be doing school work for at least two hours a day. • “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Mohandas K. Gandhi
Mr. Cunard’s Random Advice • If your student wants to go to college, have him/her join the College Club. • Academics: First call: teacher • Second call: counselor • Athletics: First call: coach • Second call: Athletic Director • Help your student find a place to belong. Work with his/her counselor if this is a struggle • Be the parent who calls the teacher or the counselor. We may be big, but we can’t do this well without your involvement • “Keep them busy and keep them tired.”
