  2. Why the Census*? • Establish baseline • Obtain more accurate information to: • develop rates • rank relative risk • target interventions • Used a sophisticated survey tool – PERSEUS • enables data slice and dice * Census announced via ALCOAST 243/08 on May 19, 2008

Impact of Rising Gas Prices on Motor Vehicle Fatality Rates • 35 States reported traffic deaths down, some as high as 20%, in first half of CY 08 • Most dramatic drop w/ teenagers • 10% increase in price, 2.3% drop in auto deaths • Ages 15-17 – 6% • Ages 18-21 – 3.2% • NHTSA – M/C deaths up 5% in 2006 from 2005
