  2. Introduction of the Unit • Prepare a power point presentation that will give an overview of what are the communicable diseases and illustrate its cause and effect. Encourage sharing of ideas and brainstorming about what they’re seen and learned from the power point presentation. Subsequently, introduce and discuss the essential question that will be used throughout the unit, how can we take good care of our self? Entail student’s to think individual about the question and talk about ideas to each other. Ask one of them to share ideas within the whole class.

  4. Unit Questions • Why we should be aware on proper hygiene? • How does proper hygiene affect human being? • How to prevent and control communicable diseases?

  5. Content Questions • What are the benefits of having proper hygiene? • What are the things to be considered to have a proper hygiene? • Who are responsible of having proper hygiene? • What are the causes of communicable diseases?

Learning objective At the end of the lesson, you are expected to • discuss the nature, prevention, and control of common communicable diseases (mortality and morbidity); • analyze the common beliefs about the causes of diseases; • discuss the factors that influence disease transmission; • explain the different elements of the chain of infection; • discuss the stages of infection;

  7. discuss adolescents skin problems: nature, prevention, and control, as in o Acne o Warts o Tinea (ringworm, jock, itch, athlete’s foot); • recommend actions to prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases; • demonstrate self-monitoring skills to prevent and control communicable diseases during adolescence

STANDARD • The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concept of health in achieving, promoting and sustaining wellness for quality life. • The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concept of health in promoting and sustaining wellness for quality life for the individual, the family and the larger communities. • The learner demonstrate understanding of family health I; family health II; preventing and control of diseases and disorder; and preventing of substance use and abuse to develop and promote wellness for quality life.

  9. Unit Summary • Students discuss the different ways of preventing and controlling diseases, including the basic things to do. They also discover how important to take good care of our self through exploration of the technology. Student will work on knowing the history of communicable diseases, they will apply and perform different techniques to enhance their self-esteem and to work socially with their group mates on making a power point presentation or documentary about prevention and controlling communicable diseases. For the project, student’s will work individually on their portfolio with different pictures of diseases that are communicable. By making their portfolio, they will develop their creativity and uniqueness.

  10. Calendar of Activities Week 1 – Communicable diseases Day 1: ◦ Trigger prior knowledge about communicable disease. ◦ Introduction of communicable diseases through power point presentation. Day 2: ◦ Review the communicable diseases through short quiz ◦ Group activity (Kinds of communicable diseases) ◦ Assignment (Research for communicable diseases that is common in our society.) Day 3: ◦ Topic (Identification of communicable diseases from non-communicable diseases.) – Focus on common communicable diseases in our society. ◦ Discussion on the cause and effect of communicable diseases ◦ Exercise (Interactive quiz) Day 4: ◦ Continuation of the discussion on the cause and effect of communicable diseases. ◦ The student’s will have their brainstorming of ideas about similarities and differences of communicable diseases. -Exercises (write an essay regarding the different causes of communicable diseases.) ◦ Assignment; (Bring pictures of the different example of individual that have communicable diseases in a collage making presentation.) Day 5: Presentation of the collage making. ◦ Giving of feedbacks and assessments after presentation ◦ Group assessment for the students

Day 1: ◦ Introduction of Prevention and control of communicable diseases through video presentation. ◦ Ask about their perception of the topic above ◦ Assignment (Make a research about the different ways to prevent and control a specific communicable diseases.) Day 2: ◦ Continuation of the previous topic and give your reflection. -Activity (By group; identify the good from bad ways of preventing communicable disease. ◦ Assignment (Make a power point presentation that shows the proper ways of preventing communicable diseases.) Day 3: ◦ Presentation of the videos by group - Ideas and knowledge about the power `point presentation Day 4: ◦ Introduce to the students the project plan(portfolio) ◦ Presentation of the portfolio rubric Day 5: ◦ Presentation of the portfolio ◦ Final assessment of the portfolio ◦ Monitor the students’ project
